Complex New Business Model

The “E-Commerce Multi Financial Forecast Model” was created with the assumption that a company will launch multiple new businesses in a particular industry sector with government subsidy. This is an example of a complex new business project. I think there are actually many cases like this.
Suppose a company plans to produce strawberries on its own and start a new strawberry picking business. For that purpose, a large amount of capital investment is required, so we are considering the construction of greenhouses incorporating an environmental control system with a subsidy from the government. The background story is based on what I wrote in the book “NINE LEADERS IN ACTION”.
To explain it briefly, the industry we are trying to enter is tourism, but at the same time agriculture, so in reality it is not enough to consider only the strawberry picking business. Therefore, we have decided to consider the possibility of operating a complex business that combines three new businesses, namely strawberry picking, online retailing, and online wholesale.

We assume that all orders are received online. For example, the strawberry picking business accepts reservations online, and the retail and wholesale businesses sell online.
One of the selling points of this product is that it estimates and analyzes multiple different businesses with one model and one worksheet. In the case of a financial model that aggregates and analyzes past corporate performance, I think it is common to create it for each business.
However, things are a little different for future-predicting models. It is much more important to be able to create a model quickly and concisely than to spend time and money pursuing accuracy and precision.
It is divided into 4 parts to improve the learning effect efficiently.
The first is a top-down analysis that performs estimation calculations from assumptions of market demand. It is a huge merit to be able to judge how much sales can be expected every year from the perspective of market demand, and what factors are affecting sales. This is a particularly important analysis for businesses where production supply meets market demand.

The second is a bottom-up analysis, which is an estimation calculation based on the assumption of production supply. By understanding the maximum supply (i.e., maximum sales volume) from the viewpoint of production supply, you can estimate the maximum sales. In the case of in-house production, it is also an advantage that the cost of sales can be calculated in detail. This is a particularly important analysis for businesses where production supply does not meet market demand, that is insufficient supply.

The third is a consolidated analysis that effectively combines the two analyzes performed above to give more realistic results. It is useful for building a management strategy that considers both market demand and field operation. Improving business judgment is key to success, as sharp insights are essential to problem solving at this stage.
The fourth is a consolidated model with scenario functionality. This is useful, for example, if you want to continuously compare and analyze business scenarios, or if you want to use graphs and charts in your presentation to effectively show the changes in some scenarios. The need for this scenario feature is primarily for those in charge of finance and business strategy.

Important: All four models are the reverse case of “EC-Single Model” and is an example when production supply is insufficient for market demand. Therefore, priority is given to analysis from production and supply.

The point here is that different businesses naturally have different popularity, price, conversion rate, order frequency, purchase volume, cost, and supply from suppliers, and furthermore each business needs to use different units to calculate.
For example, strawberry picking reservations will be sold in “ticket” units, strawberry retail packs will be sold in “package” units, and strawberry wholesale will be sold in “kilogram” units. It is necessary to make an estimation while recognizing the difference.
This is the another most versatile content of our financial services that can be leveraged for many businesses. It is intended for entrepreneurs, business owners, project managers, planners, and finance personnel.
Therefore, we have prepared three models based on supply and demand, and a model with a scenario function. The latter is primarily for corporate finance personnel and professionals. I think this configuration is the best for learning purposes.
In addition, we have created a series of charts and graphs that are useful for analysis and presentation. It also includes a dashboard designed for printing on A4 paper, which is useful for creating concise and easy-to-understand reports.

When purchasing for the first time, please consider the “EC Basic Model” rather than here. These models require more advanced Excel knowledge and are more computationally intensive.
It comes with an instruction manual so you can get an overall picture of your financial analysis. Starting from the overview of financial model, it explains how to enter data into Excel, the flow of calculation, how to read financial statements, analysis results, and output charts, and how to print on A4 paper, etc. Furthermore, we have tried to include supplementary notes in the template as much as possible to help understanding.

Finally, if you are interested in creating a financial forecast model using your company’s financial statements, please check out the “EC Single Model” page, which uses year over year growth rate analysis.
In summary, these forecasting models are recommended for business owners and entrepreneurs who have a keen interest in financial analysis, as well as project managers, planners, and finance professionals.
